It’s so weird being back where the internet is a presence in my life.

Two weeks of jam sessions, watching flamenco performances, eating delicious food, working in the scullery washing something on the order of 500 dinner plates and silverware, wonderful guitar lessons from Hans York, experiencing cool things with Cecily, seeing Renee and Rosie, playing music with all sorts of different people, and discovering things that have changed about myself in the past year has left me feeling very odd about being back in the world of cars and cell phones and a community larger than 500 people.

Now comes the readjustment period. Otherwise known as the “Adam is going to bitch about the fact that you can’t walk 25 feet without seeing someone you know and that you don’t fall asleep listening to jam sessions constantly” phase.

Anyhow, it’s been a very interesting Mill, though not the best I’ve ever had. I’ll write my musings about it down some time later this week. I’m starting a job at a farm up the coast tomorrow morning… early. As in, I have to wake up at 5 AM early. So it’s likely I’ll be really exhausted. But I want to find time to talk about my experiences since I learned a lot about myself and the experiences I had this year just by talking through them with people.

Also, tumblr is so weird after having not used it for 2 weeks. It moves so fast and I have no idea how I was in any way used to using it like that. Bizarre.

Eva Scow and Dusty Brough - Sharon by the Sea

From “Sharon by the Sea”

This album is such a gem. (Connie, I have a feeling you’d like this, maybe?) Odd time signatures and jazz with folk instrumentation. I love the chord progression in this tune.

Hans York - Ever Falling

From “Young Amelia”

“No place to me seems too far, nothing’s written in stone”

The best song for road trips there is.

Hans York - Snow

From “Young Amelia”

When a song feels like what it’s supposed to describe, that’s the mark of good songwriting. I can play this song too, so like all other Hans songs, this one has a special place in my heart. Eva Scow’s mandolin playing on this is so subtle and wonderful too.

Obligatory Renee and Rosie appreciation post. I miss the Sweet’s Mill cantina so much. No place has quite the atmosphere for music that place has.

Eva Scow and Dusty Brough - Sketches of Terry

From “Sharon by the Sea”.

The album this is from is so nostalgic. It’s one of two albums that bring back Sweet’s Mill memories immediately for me. And this is one of my favorite songs from it. Myra Joy’s cello playing is sooooo good.

Oh man, walking in part way through this bit of music… such a magical experience.
