The Same River
My name is Adam.
I am 21.
I live in Santa Cruz, California.
I am a musician, a composer to be more specific.
I love people, connections between them, those who are shy and have a lot of interesting things to say, musicians or artists of any kind, people who just like music a lot, people who like to do things outdoors, people who are obsessive over good writing and spelling (but who also can respect the fact that language evolves and changes, and don't attack others over it), people who care about how our culture impacts the environment and want to change it/tear it down/do something meaningful, people who like video game music and aren't ashamed of it, people who are passionate about life and who live it vicariously, people who are good at self love and self care (in a non-arrogant way!), and most of all, nice people. Whatever that means. :p
Needless to say, I also like run-on sentences.
Things/people/places I blog about semi-regularly:
Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson
Riverside/Mariusz Duda
Hans York
Progressive Rock
Stuff from Poland
Obscure music no one has heard of (often from Poland)
Music in general
Mortal Engines
Video games (mostly SNES era ones)/game music
My own music
My life
Environmentalism
Anarchism/indigenism, occasionally, though I feel kind of shy about that side of myself
Political things
Sweet's Mill (the wonderful music camp I frequent every summer)

The origin of this album… is my friendship with Mikael, and the start of that was around the time of Blackwater Park and the fact that we realised that we had a very strong musical connection and also, a personal connection.

Awkward photo is awkward. But yayyyy, I finally have it! Thanks to Lax (a fellow fan we met after the show) for taking the picture.

Nick Beggs and Marco Minnemann (Tomada con instagram)
Nick Beggs is so awesome. Also, his facial expressions remind me a lot of Hans York.
And of course Marco Minnemann is also brilliant.

(80 plays)Insurgentes
So here’s a little something I’ve been working on lately. It’s a sort of instrumental cover/reinterpretation of Steven Wilson’s Insurgentes. Not piano though, just shit-tonnes of guitar effects on about nine different guitar tracks. It’s pretty shoegazy. I dunno, I’m kinda proud of it, it came out alright. The mixing’s not too awful either.
So yeah. Erm, give it a listen. I’d appreciate it if you did.

Concert highlights from the April 6th Fillmore show other than meeting Steven Wilson/getting my picture taken with him (because that already got a post dedicated to how awesome that was, and I might make another one still):
- Nick Beggs’ facial expressions while playing bass, and his harmony vocals (which were sadly really low in the mix)
- Steven’s gas mask during ‘Get All You Deserve’
- That awesome keyboard solo during ‘No Part of Me’
- Everything Theo Travis did
- The new, unreleased thing they performed
- The way they started playing ‘No Twilight’ with just the bassist and the drummer and then had all the other band members filter in
- Steven’s voice during Raider II, and the background video which was creepy as fuck and made me think of the lyrics to ‘Drown With Me’ a bit (‘tire tracks on the ground, she will be found’ and all of that)
- Veneno Para Las Hadas. Fuck, it was so pretty live
- Singing along to Deform to Form a Star
- Singing Schizophrenic Prayer and The Same River a capella really hilariously with a couple Riverside fans outside of the show after it was over
- Meeting a dude who had been into Porcupine Tree for the last 10 years and discovering we had discovered a lot of the bands we were into in the same order as one another
- Carpooling with Mason and Will and talking about cool things
- Meeting Shantel and Riley, some awesome Santa Cruz musicians. Apparently Riley was part of KhaNos once, that ridiculous/great metal band that Shane was part of that was a concept band about space whales and cross-galactic germination of parasitic life
There was more that was really awesome too, but I just woke up and can’t think of everything off the top of my head yet.
